Grinding became powered

(Africa-Malawi)

One of the womenÕs biggest works was used to be grinding corn into flour with vertical mallets, and making the staple food called Shima (kneaded food). Compared with before, there are people who do business with grinding corn by the power (motor) today. About 5000 people live in Chembe village but there are only 2 grinding houses, so everyday, there are long lines. After the harvest, corn is preserved as grains and carried to the grinding house about once a week. There is less labor but the price of grinding corn is expensive. (Y. Kada)
