Tenney Park Canal, outlet of Lake Mendota
Tenney Park, Madison (U.S.A.)
Tenney Park Lock is located at the Yahara River outlet of Lake Mendota, and was originally the site of a dam, built in 1849. This was used to maintain a 110cm difference between the levels of upstream Lake Mendota and provided water power for local industries and factories. The Lock was a popular site for fishing, and is here frequented by local children, and even by well-dressed ladies. The Lock gates are still a popular site for fishermen of all ages. In summertime, sometimes as many as 150 small boats use the lock each day. (A. Rossiter)
