Summertime activities in Lake Mendota
University of Wisconsin, Madison (U.S.A.)
The hot Wisconsin summers made the lakes a natural gathering place for youngsters wanting to cool off. A jetty and a diving gantry provided a popular attraction. The red gym peers over the tree line, and the University Boat House nestles on the lakeshore. The red gym is still evident, but many other buildings now crowd the Lake Mendota shoreline. The Boat House burned down in 1964, and has been rebuilt to the right of this location. Swimming no longer seems popular here, and instead sailboarding, and dinghy and yacht sailing dominate. (A.
