The old port with the long history
The old port, City of Nyon, Vaud (Switzerland)
Founded between 50 and 44 BC, Nyon was the most important Roman town in the periphery of lake and still retains magnificent relics from that period. Its port later enjoyed a certain importance in the supply of wood to the city of Geneva. The pier (extending out into the lake) was built in 1824 in order to shelter the lateen-rigged boats in bad weather. This area will shortly be completely restored in order to provided the site for the new Musée du Léman. (C. Bertola)
