Fishing village to ecological museum
The Port de Rive, City of Thonon-les-Bains, Departement of Haute-Savoie (France)
The greatest concentrations of professional fishermen are now in Thonon and Nyon. In the Léman area, this occupation still involves 120 families. In Thonon, the fishermen's quarter has been given fresh importance by the creation of a Fishing Museum, which will enable the fishing traditions of the Léman to be better appreciated. An extensive harbor and jetty have been installed in front of the cabins. It was also at Thonon that a large lateen-rigged boat was constructed, baptized the Savoy as a symbol of local identity, and launched in August 2000." (C. Bertola)
