Working boats to pleasure yachts and steamers

Quai des Eaux-Vives, City of Geneva, State of Geneva
(Switzerland)

Lateen-rigged boats were employed for more than three centuries in transporting all the goods across the lake, especially the Meillerie quarry stones used in constructing the buildings in Geneva. The port is crowded nowadays with a multitude of pleasure boats. Nearby is the departure point for the Bold'Or, a regatta that attracts more than 600 sailing boats. On the embankment itself the cabins of the professional Genevan fisherman are to be seen. (C. Bertola)
