A nautical guardian, Port Geneva
The Port, City of Geneva, Geneva (Switzerland)
Lake Léman enjoys an exceptional marine legacy. Neptune, the lateen-rigged boat built in 1904, was saved in 1975 by the State of Geneva. It is anchored near the Pierres de Niton, two blocks of stone-erratics that bear witness to the glacial origin of the lake. The furthest of these blocks has served since 1820, as the reference point for measuring altitudes in Switzerland. Since 1891, this remarkable fountain that attains a height of 140m, has become the tourist attraction of the harbor and the symbol of Geneva itself. (C. Bertola)
