The vineyard mothered by Lake Léman
St-Saphorin and the Alpes Vaudoises, City of St-Saphorin, Vaud (Switzerland)
The wide expanse (583 km2) of Lake Léman, exercises a moderating effect on the general climate of the region. The reflection of the sun's rays, moreover, has enabled the development of wine growing on the Lavaux and Cote slopes. It is in this same area that the highest population densities and largest towns are to be found. Nevertheless, the maintenance of traditional forms of agriculture has enabled the countryside to be preserved throughout the centuries. (C.Bertola)
