World-famous Château de Chillon

The Château de Chillon, Vaud
(Switzerland)

This castle, which was built during the 12th century, has made Lake Léman known worldwide and is the most visited historical building in Switzerland. It has for long been the symbol of political power and its domination of the lake, especially since the 13th century, when the area became the international crossroads for European trade. This magnificent castle has also been the inspiration for many artists, and has for decades, provided a living for postcard sellers. (C.Bertola)
