Facilities of bath and a wash house
Quay of Celestins, Paris (France)
This photo looks to the west. In the foreground, on the left, we can see the quay sloping down to the river to enable horses to drink. On the other side of the river, facilities of bath are moored at the bank of the Saint-Louis Island and so are wash-houses on each side of the Marie Bridge. Today the port has given its place to the express dive-way. On the right, we can still see the access slope to the quay turned into a car-park, and a guardhouse, unused today. The Quay of Anjou on the Saint-Louis Island has become a promenade. Wash houses stopped their activities around 1937. (P. Pellegrini)
