People drawing drinking water

Sakuranomiya, Miyakojima Ward, Osaka
(Japan)

Even in 1880 (Meiji 20), people obtained their drinking water from wells or rivers in Osaka. Pollution of river was in progress and as a result, the city limited drinking river water and designated this place as spots to take drinking water. Today at the same place, we can find a driving school for the boat. When we were there to take a picture, there were several young people for taking classes. Here, meaning of water has changed from the water for living to the water for leisure. (A. Kobayashi)
