SaitoTown, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto
(Japan)

At the Meiji Era, Yuka were built over the Kamo River during July and August, and were offering people pleasure of the summer. Today, the Kamo River is reconstructed and Yuka are built over a new river called Misosogi runs parallel to the Kamo River. Yuka had a strong image of a place where only rich men hold drinking parties, but today numbers of popular shops increased and we can find young people as well as women on Yuka. Furthermore, period of setting the terrace became longer (from May to September). We can see in behind the Shijyo Bridge which was reconstructed with iron in 1874. (A. Kobayashi)
