Where is the canal?

Sazukawa, Moriyama City, Shiga
(Japan)

A Tabune (boat) sailing with a bull on it. As there were many canals around Sazukawa Village, People went to the paddy fields mostly by boats. And during the season of plowing, they also take cattle to the paddies by boats. Those boats were wider and stabler than usual ones. The pier was at the place where there was an Otabisho (a place where Mikoshi, a portable shrine or palaquin, from main shrine was enshrined and kept temporarily). Today the place was reclaimed and there remains no longer any trace of the past. (A. Kobayashi)
