From the making living to pastime
Okisima Town, Oumihachiman City, Siga (Japan)
People of Okishima Island fishing with a drag net. Several men are turning a wheel to draw the net. Donbe in the foreground are the containers of the fish caught. Today the beach is supervised by the OmiHachiman Kokumin Kyuka Mura (a national vacation village used as a health resort) and crowded with people enjoying bathing. We can see these are the pictures of the same place only by the islands in the background. The change from the place for making living to the place for pastime is amazing. (A. Kobayashi)
