Washing through all ages

Kaizu, Makino Town, Shiga
(Japan)

A woman doing the wash in the washing tub. This was a popular style of washing as you can avoid getting your kimono's front wetand need not to crouch lower than to do on the bridge board. Today we cannot see the washing style like a woman in the picture. In this area, however, washing places and bridge boards are more frequently seen than any other places. "We still wash bed sheets and rugs out with lake water and we like to feel clean." says Miyoko Morino. (A. Kobayashi).
