A pier in the morning
Okisima Island, Oumihachiman City, Siga (Japan)
People used to come to the pier one after another to drink water, to wash their faces, to wash rice, to do the wash and to do various other things. In the past, these piers could be seen everywhere around the lake. But now, we can scarcely find them as waterworks have come into wide use. The picture below is the picture of the same place as above. And two persons are the mother (left), Yoshiko Chatani (third from the left of above picture) and her daughter (right), Aiko Okumura (fifth from the left of above picture). They stand at the same place 40 years later. (A. Kobayashi) |
