Kleuter Feed Mill
East Washington Avenue, Madison (U.S.A.)
Large areas of Madison were once marshland. Here, the Kleuter Feed Mill has been built right on the edge of the Great Central Marsh, visible in the foreground. The sloping telegraph poles mark the north edge of East Washington Avenue, then decried as one of the ugliest approaches to the city. The Kreuter Feed Mill has been incorporated as part of the Maunz Paint factory. The marsh has been drained, and is now home to factories, commercial establishments and some residential areas. A modern six-lane highway contrasts markedly with the mud and gravel 1911 track. (A. Rossiter)
