A 100 years-old bridge
Williamson Street, Madison (U.S.A.)
One of several bridges spaning the Yahara River, the Williamson Street Bridge is a solid stone construction, which carries a certain elegance for its time. To the left a horse-drawn carriage is seen, and on the bridge several bowler-hatted gentlemen are watching something on the other side of the bridge. The bridge, now over 100 years old, has fared well, even under the greatly increased traffic load from first, horseless carriages, and then today modern automobiles. Riverbank vegetation has been allowed to regenerate, complementing the serene image of the slow flowing river. (A. Rossiter)
