Urban development in Madison
North Pinckney Street, Madison (U.S.A.)
Workmen, many attired in hats, braces and waistcoasts, are building a double streetcar track around Capitol Square. The oversized awnings were then common around these shops, to shelter pedestrians and displayed good from strong sunlight. The three buildings today to the right are those seen in the earlier 1905 photograph. The tall church steeple is no longer visible, but most of the architecture has remained basically unchanged for the past 100 years. (A. Rossiter)
