Monona Bay, looking at the Capitol

Brittingham Park, Madison
(U.S.A.)

The Capitol has long symbolized the heart of Madison. This view, from Brittingham Park on the Lake Monona shoreline, shows a relatively undeveloped city, with much natural woodland and few tall buildings. Today, the Capitol is only just visible from Brittingham Park. Although trees remain along the park's lakeshore, the forested areas in the early photograph have been felled. Modern high rise office buildings now form much of the Madison skyline. (A. Rossiter)
