Picnic Point

Observatory Drive, Madison
(U.S.A.)

A gentleman drives his horse and buggy along a rough path on Observatory Hill. Agricultural land at the bottom of the hill is bordered by the fence along the lakeshore. In the distance, Picnic Point, relatively bare of vegetation from use as a grazing site, projects out in to Lake Mendota. The well-forested Picnic Point, is a key landmark in Lake Mendota. At the bottom of the hill, former agricultual land has been allowed to return to natural forest. (A. Rossiter)
